How do you know if you have a leak in your New Jersey home?

Sometimes, leaks are easy to find.  It’s kind of easy if you hear the leak dripping in the night, or if you see water where it isn’t supposed to be.  Sometimes, though, the leak can be in a wall or underground.  Those can be much harder to detect. Here are some things you do to determine if you have a leak.

  • Find your water meter and take a reading.
  • Make sure that no one in the home uses any water for at least 2 hours.  That includes not flushing the toilet.
  • After a couple of hours, take a look at your meter again.  If the number has changed, you have a leak.

Leaks we can repair

There are many places you can get a leak.  Fortunately, our licensed plumbers can help repair leaks in any of these areas.

Pipe leak repair

The pipes in your home have joints, that can, over time, become loose.  As a result, you can start to get leaks that can damage your walls, floors, or celings.  Mold can also begin to form if the leak is left unrepaired.  If you think you have a leak, call Rescue Plumbing and we’ll send someone out.

Toilet leak repair

The most common type of toilet leak is caused by worn out toilet flappers.  Water is able to leak from the tank in to the bowl causing the toilet to flush repeatedly ever time the water level drops.  This is easily fixed by buying a replacement a local hardware store and installing it.

If the toilet is leaking at the base, the toilet seal needs to be replaced.  Give Rescue Plumbing a call and we can send someone out as soon as possible.

Shower head Leak Repair

Leaky shower heads are used caused by a loosening of the joint where the shower head meets the wall pipe. These are usually very easy to repair by removing the shower head, and then replacing it after wrapping a new layer of Teflon tape around the threads. If it continues to leak, call a professional plumber to take a look.  If the shower head itself is leaking, it may require a replacement of the head itself, or a seal inside the shower head.

Water heater leak repair

If your water heater has a leak, the location of the leak will determine what needs to be done.  If it’s just the lines going in or out of the tank, those are typically easy repairs.  If the tank itself is leaking, then a full replacement will be necessary.  Give us a call, and we’ll help diagnose the problem for you.

Faucet Leak Repair

Typically, faucet leaks are simply a worn out washer or seal.  Many of these repairs are simple for a homeowner to repair, but if you need assistance, we’d be glad to help.  Give Rescue Plumbing a call, and we’ll send out one of our licensed plumbers to get it repaired.
